By Megan Z. Shearin | January 4, 2010 Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Va. - The Neil Britton Art Gallery, located in the Hofheimer Library on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan College, exhibits At the Edge of Dawn, on display January 15 – March 31, 2010. An artist’s reception will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29 in the Gallery. At the Edge of Dawn features large-scale paintings by Virginia Wesleyan alumnus Will Corr ’94. Corr has refined an aesthetic that combines a personal language of simple iconographic motifs with the pictorial structures and spatial ambiguities of cubism and abstraction. Widely collected in Hampton Roads, his paintings have been awarded “Best in Show” at both the Boardwalk Art Show in Virginia Beach, Va., and the Stockley Gardens Art Festival in Norfolk, Va. A lecture presentation by the artist will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28 in Clarke Hall, room 118. “We are very privileged to be able to host a show of Will Corr's paintings, and we are even more proud that he is an alumnus of the College,” said John Rudel, curator of exhibitions. “Getting to see a solo exhibit of his work and hear him discuss how he makes his work will be an outstanding opportunity for our students and the entire community." The opening reception and lecture presentation are free and open to the public. This event is sponsored by the Art Department at Virginia Wesleyan College. Corr will donate 20 percent of his sales from the exhibition to the College. About Will Corr ’94 He has taught for the Old Donation Center for the Gifted and Talented Summer Program, Adjunct Faculty for Salisbury University, and was a Teaching Intern at the Maryland Institute College of Art. His works are in numerous corporate and private collections across the country. Will lives and works on Anna Maria Island, Fla., with his wife, Cindy, and their daughter, Makena Grace.
